Old Lace - 2016

Old Lace - Runaways on Hulu - She’s a genetically modified Raptor. We used Crocodile skin for her back/underside, Rhino hide for the softness of her muzzle/front of arms & Ostrich for her feet/claws. I really wanted her to be an ‘Animal’ rather than a scary monstrous dinosaur. I was hoping for a range of emotion in the design, something that is very difficult to carry through the whole process. When art directing the puppet and cg model I used a comparison that describes her as less of a ‘Work Boot’ and more of a ‘High Heel’. The softness of the Rhino hide in her face & arms where she would be physically interacting with her friends is meant to make her more practically & viscerally approachable. The scales are meant to add grace through the soft flowing movement along the side of the face, down through the neck, through the underbelly, arms, lower legs & feet. - Continued in comments...
